Region Information : Antwerp Cathedral (200 m) - built in 1351 and never formally completed, this Gothic style cathedral boasts a 123 m spire and significant works by the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens.
'Grote Markt' ('Great Market', 200 m) - A popular square in Antwerp that displays a host of historic and ornate architecture, including several 16th century Guildhouses.
'Het Steen' ('The Stone', 300 m) - situated on the banks of the river Schelde, this medieval castle is Antwerp's oldest building. Now home to a shipping and navigation museum.
Travel Information : By train:
- From Antwerp Central Station, take a tram to 'Groenplaats'. Lines 2, 5, 15 (all towards 'Linkeroever') or 3 (towards 'Zwijndrecht') all stop here.
- Proceed on foot along Reyndersstraat, heading towards the river.
- Just after the Jordaenshuis Theatre, turn right onto Hoogstraat.
- The hotel will be on your left.
By air:
- Train run regularly from Antwerp Airport to Antwerp Berchem station.
- From here, catch a train to Antwerp Central Station.
- Follow directions outlined above under 'By train'.
By car:
- Head towards Gent and take exit 5a ('Antwerp South Centrum')
- At the end of exit (on your left will be the Palace of Justice with flags on its roof) turn left.
- Continue to the end of the road and turn right onto De Gerlachekaai / Cockerillkaai
- At 4th traffic light turn right onto Suikerrui-Oude Koornmarkt
- Hoogstraat (where the hotel is situated) will be your 2nd right. You will be unable to park here however.
- Instead, continue along to the end Suikerrui-Oude Koornmarkt.
- Take a left, and then another left onto Leeuwenstraat, where pay parking is available.
Hotel Information : The hotel is housed in an early 15th century building. It takes its name from the local trade in exotic fruit, which was prevalent from 1445.
