Region Information : The hotel is ideally situated in the very heart of the city, the Leidseplein. The perfect location for visiting the main museums, cinemas, theatres, bars, restaurants and major shopping areas.
Food & Beverages : The Café American, with its breathtaking decor, is the cultural meeting place of Amsterdam. With its walls displaying original 1930 oil paintings from Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream", the Café is the perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by on the Leidseplein. On Sunday, the Jazz Brunch invites to indulge in life, music and culinary delicacies. The Jazz Brunch is served from 12.30 - 15.30 in Café Americain. High tea is available for 2 persons and is served every saturday from 14.00 - 17.00 hours.. A monthly changing seasonal 3 course menu is also offered, along with other seasonal dishes. The kitchen is opened untill 22.00 hours.
The Café Americain is opened from monday to friday between 06.30 and 23.30 hours. On saturday and sunday its opened from 07.00 untill 23.30
The cosy Nightwatch Bar is popular with both hotel guests and "Amsterdammers" alike. The Bar Americain is opened from 17.00 untill 01.00 hours.
Travel Information : Arriving by car:
- Drive along the A4 highway (E10).
- Take exit Zaanstad, then exit Osdorp (S-106).
- Turn right and follow road, passing Surinameplein. At this roundabout, keep going straight on.
- Turn to the left and cross the Kostverlorenvaart Bridge. Turn left on Overtoom. At the end of the Overtoom, turn left into the Stadthouderskade.
- Cross the 1st bridge on the right and then the 2nd street Marnixstraat onto the Leidsekade. The hotel is on your left.
The Connexxion shuttle bus to and from Schiphol Airport stops only 50 metres from the hotel entrance and departs approximately every 20 minutes. Tickets can be purchased on the bus or with the concierge.
Trams 1, 2, 5 (coming from Central Station) and 6, 7, 10 stop directly in front of the hotel. Tickets can be bought on board or with the concierge.
Short description : Built in 1900, the Amsterdam American Hotel is Amsterdam's most famous art nouveau hotel, directly located on the lively Leidseplein.
From its classic exterior with tower to stained glass windows and wall paintings inside, art nouveau architectural and decorative features can be found even in its rooms. The hotel and the rooms are facilitated with airconditioning.
The Grand Café America serves breakfast and dinner under its arched roof decorated with Tiffany lamps. The Café extends onto the Leidseplein in summer times. The American Hotel offers a historic discovery, combined with the comfort of modern guest room amenities, directly in the city centre.
Hotel Information : The 4-star Amsterdam American Hotel is situated right on the lively Leidseplein, it has its own boat landing and features many rooms with views of the canal or the Leidseplein Square. Built in 1900 original Art Nouveau architectural style, its decorative features can be found in the cafe, public areas and some of the 175 guest rooms.
The Café Americain is open from monday to friday from 06:30 - 23.30 hour, on saturday and sunday its opened from 7.00 - 23.30. The Café Americain is opened for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, and dinner can be enjoyed in a classical setting under Tiffany lamps and original wall paintings featuring scenes from Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night's Dream". On Sunday, the lively Jazz Brunch is offered. High Tea parties can only be served on Saturdays. The Bar American offer award winning cocktails or the famous "biertje" with Dutch snacks.
Only a few steps away are the Leidsestraat shopping street, bars, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, the casino and the Hard Rock Café. To reach the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum or the PC Hoofdstraat or the Vondelpark, a 5 minute stroll is all it takes.
Important Information : A valid ID or passport is required on check-in.
Check-in time is at 15:00. The only way to guarantee an early arrival is to reserve the room for the night before.
Check out time is at 12 noon. We kindly request you to take this time into consideration. If you would like to keep the room longer than 12 noon there will be an automatic charge at € 25.00 per hour, until 4pm. After 4pm our daily room rate will apply.
A 100% charge of the original number of nights applies in case of early check-out.
While some drugs are legalized in The Netherlands, drugs are not permitted anywhere on the Hotel’s premises. By violating this rule we will charge an extra € 150.00 to your account.
Starting March 2007 till February 2008 we will be renovating the façade of the hotel in 3 different stages. This to bring the building back to its historical Art Nouveau monument.
Cancellations must be done before 16.00 hours on the day before arrival!
Please note: Reservations as from 9 or more rooms will have different cancellation policies, because it's concerning a group booking!
Cancelation Policy : Cancellation Policy: If cancelled up to 1 day before the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged.
Children and Extra Bed Policy: All children are welcome.
All children under 12 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.
All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.
All older children or adults are charged EUR 35.00 per night and person for extra beds.
Maximum capacity of total guests in a room is 3.
Deposit Policy: No deposit will be charged.
VAT and city/tourist taxes: VAT is included.
Service charge is included.
5 % city/tourist tax per room per night is not included.
Internet: Wired internet is available in the hotel rooms only and charges are applicable.
Meal Plan: Buffet breakfast is not included and cost EUR 21.00 per person.
Parking: No parking available.
